A North Yorkshire Luxury Holiday Cottage

Step back 700 years in time and have a break  where yesterday and today meet in North Yorkshire

On Your Doorstep

The house is fronted by sunny secluded gardens designed as a series of 'rooms', where there is room to play croquet, boules and badminton. A large table is provided for al fresco meals.

There is a rose garden designed as a walk through the history of roses, and the herb garden will provide fresh herbs for the kitchen or bath.

The orchard contains old varieties of apple, pear and plum. This is the home ground of ‘the ladies’ – rare breed hens who are good recyclers of left-overs, and three of whom lay naturally blue eggs.

Our 110 acre farm has some lovely walks, either on farm lanes or around the fields. From the top fields there are views of the village, the Pennines and the Hambleton Hills, with the White Horse of Kilburn.

The wide range of habitats within the farm - woodland, stream, hedgerows and fields of low input arable crops encourage lots of wildlife.

The village is only a couple of fields away and has a shop and a pub with good food and beer.

There is a multi use games area with a tennis court in the village which is situated very conveniently at the end of the drive, 200 yards away.

This wonderful country for cycling and riding - bring your own mounts or hire them locally. We can provide storage or stabling.

Out And About

Ready to explore? There's plenty to do whatever time of the year you visit

The variety of scenery around us provides endless possibilities for walking, cycling and touring - North to the vast dramatic open landscape of the Moors; West to the green valley pastures  of the Dales, beloved of our famous local vet - James Herriot and the Bronte Country.  South through the rich farmlands of the Vale of York , to the City, with its glorious Minster, Jorvik Museum and the National Rail Museum : East to the Wolds  and coast - picturesque fishing villages, Whutby old town's quaint streets, imposing cliff top Abbey and Dracula legend, the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough and Filey.

Historic York and the Spa town of Harrogate are both within 1/2 hours drive, providing a host of attractions and the opportunity to shop 'til you drop during the day, and dine out or party at night.

There numerous places to visit. Yorkshire's rich past bequeathed us Castles, Abbeys and Stately Homes in abundance. Castle Howard, Beningborough Hall, Newby Hall, Duncombe Park - The Abbeys of Byland, Rievaulx and Fountains and Helmsley Castle are all within 1/2 hours drive.

This part of Yorkshire supports many fascinating craft industries, particularly in our immediate area, where almost every village has it's own wood carver and furniture maker - the most renowned of which is Robert Thompson - the Mouse Man - at Kilburn.
